BLOG 1: INSTALLATION WITH PARKETT

by the Raw Edges Design Studio

The young design duo of Duo Shay Alkalay and Yael Mer, from the Raw Edges Design Studio, created this impressive floor installation in the gallery of Established & Sons, London. They called their work of art, made up of oiled oak parquet in a herringbone pattern, “Wall to Wall.” The dying of the individual pieces of wood required 15 different colours. Through the targeted disassociation of an everyday object – parquet – Alkalay and Mer have created a living, characteristically mosaic design

These two artists completed a course of studies at the Royal College of Art. Since then, they have received a few of the most important designer prizes, including the British Council Talented Award, the iF Gold Award, the Dutch Design Award, the Wallpaper* Design Award and the "Designer of the Future Award 2009" at Design Miami/Basel.
