Mandarin Suite
Between ash and aesthetics
Located in Naples’ historic centre, the Mandarin Suite tells a story of destruction and new beginnings, once devastated by fire and now a place where past and present meet in a fascinating harmony. In-Nova Studio has not only restored this apartment but reinterpreted it – with respect for the old and a feel for the new.
A parquet floor that carries history – Monopark in a herringbone installation underscores the clear design language and lends the Mandarin Suite a stylish presence.
Historic fabric and contemporary design enter into a carefully balanced dialogue in the Mandarin Suite, where the traces of the fire were not concealed but integrated into the new concept as design elements. Original features such as 18th-century timber ceilings, solid door frames and the original cement tile floor in the bedroom were preserved and re-staged, while the modernised historic structure is complemented by precise interventions such as the newly created bathroom volume with a mezzanine level and a delicate suspended staircase that deliberately sets itself apart from the existing fabric.

Monopark short-strip parquet by Bauwerk Parkett in a herringbone pattern was used wherever no floor covering worth preserving or true to the original remained, and with its calm structure and natural appearance, this entry-level parquet blends perfectly into the overall composition. Made from European wood of controlled origin, it complements the historic fabric in an aesthetic and contemporary way – clear in its lines and natural in its expression.
