Fans of Nordic design will love the city of Aarhus. Architectural Digest magazine has called the city a paradise for design aficionados, with historical 18th century buildings, modern mid-20th century architecture, independent boutiques offering products by local manufacturers, and an enormous new waterfront district with futuristic apartment buildings.

Aarhus airport lies to the north of the city. As a rule, airports are public spaces with large numbers of people where function usually trumps form. However, the architects from Schmidt, Hammer & Lassen wanted to imbue the Aarhus airport with a home-like feel, something that is both inviting and elegant. The idea was to suppress that sense of stress and hurry, and the ambience of this public space was to be made as pleasant as possible.

A step inside Aarhus airport
Interior and industrial designer Mette Faarup Jørgensen, from AMPM Design Studio, noted that their goal in the Aarhus airport was to create an airport that doesn’t feel like one. High and low back Silhouette sofas, paired with Rebar coffee tables and Uchiwa Lounge tables, were used to build a personal and comfortable travel environment that makes you feel as if you were in someone’s living room.

HAY shelf systems were used as room dividers creating a feeling of intimacy and privacy. The interior designer is convinced that these shelves enclose and form small and intimate spaces, in addition to providing storage and presentation space for retail products.

Precisely because of their "used" appearance, these floors are the perfect partners for a modern furnishing style with personality and contribute to a feel-good atmosphere in the room.

Unique charm with patina
The appearance of the used-look parquet floors is based on signs of wear, which make the floors even more beautiful over time. This makes used-look products very easy to handle and care for.

The patina makes the structure of the wood clearly visible, giving it a unique charm. It is this 'used' appearance that makes this type of floors a perfect companion to a modern interior design style with personality, adding to the atmosphere of well-being in the room.

This was exactly what motivated the design and architecture team when they chose Bauwerk’s Trendpark Oak in the warm Tabacco colour. 575 m2 of this vibrant parquet floor were installed in the Aarhus airport.
