KTM Motohall – Ready to Race

There is nothing static about the KTM motorcycle brand. That's why its museum building, with an exhibition hall and demonstration workshop, needed to represent movement in every detail.

There is nothing static about the KTM motorcycle brand. That's why its museum building, with an exhibition hall and demonstration workshop, needed to represent movement in every detail.

Thanks to the naturally oiled surface, the floor in the much-used event hall of this size is wonderfully protected.

Curved loops and ramps
Inside, visitors are conducted along suspended walkways and ramps, uninterrupted by stairs and landings. The open reinforced concrete structure makes it possible to experience the KTM brand in a spacious, and richly sensory environment. The main body of the showroom is formed by two elliptical shapes shifted and set inside one another. The countless ramps and platforms offer a demonstration workshop, an innovation lab, a pit-stop shop, and an event room for 400 people.

The floor matching the KTM Corporate Identity
To offset the ever-subtle and cool-looking exposed concrete, aluminium and terrazzo, the event room needed a warmer and more natural material, like a parquet floor. Our popular product, Trendpark Flow Edition Nero, led the architects to Bauwerk. The floor was to stand for the black of KTM’s black-and-orange colour scheme. Ultimately, the client opted for the Studiopark format and the Smoked Oak colour: in addition to the smoking, the product received a triple treatment with black oil. Thanks to this, the parquet wonderfully matches the architecture and the overall image. The natural-oiled surface offers excellent protection to the floor in this large and much-used event room.

Another challenge was integrating lifting platforms for presenting new products in the room. Low thickness is a major asset for 2-layer parquet, making it possible to achieve a flush transition between the floor and the lowered lifting platforms. This was a key advantage of Bauwerk Parkett.

The solution-oriented approach and detailed and professional negotiations with the client and the architects at the world of parquet in Salzburg led them to finally decide on Bauwerk’s product.

In addition to the KTM Motorhall museum, the architecture firm Hofbauer Liebmann Wimmensberger Architekten designed other projects for KTM, including an R&D building, a flagship store and a logistics centre. These buildings always form an analogy to KTM’s slogan: ‘Ready to Race’.

The new building, enclosed in perforated metal strips for a tyre-mark look, immediately gives off a dynamic and sporting impression. In good weather, the facade also experiences movement: the perforations open depending on the position of the sun, standing at an angle to the metal strips.
