What Matters When Renovating
A terraced house built in 1890, stripped back to its load-bearing structure: the Bachtobelstrasse renovation was far more than just a refurbishment. The historical building underwent a thorough refinement to suit a young family, in conjunction with RAUMTAKT. The floor plans, wooden ceilings and foundations were renewed, introducing large glazed surfaces opening up the house more to the garden. Historical details remained unchanged, or were reinterpreted in a contemporary way. This resulted in a home that preserves the building’s history whilst meeting today’s needs.
This renovation shows how colour and natural materials can create a completely new identity for a room. In the kitchen, the powerful royal blue presents itself as an intentional contrast to the warm caramel tones of parquet from our Spinpark collection. The grain of the wood, distinctive for its 45-degree rotation, brings motion into the structure of the space, highlighting the wood as a natural material in a special way. The result of this is a unique interaction of colour, light and parquet.

From old stock to new home
Home creator and influencer Marietta Kiesling has reimagined an unassuming apartment in an old building in the heart of Vienna. For ‘Apartment 13’, this meant a restructured floor plan, purposeful design interventions and our Formpark Rombico parquet strips, all of which turned it into a modern city residence with a sophisticated charm that has lost none of its historic character. What makes parquet such a good match for a renovation is more than just the floor’s longevity. Over its lifetime the floor can undergo renovations itself: signs of wear can be touched up, damaged places can be repaired, and the entire surface can be sanded and renewed. This means that parquet can withstand decades of use and can be adapted to new expectations and changes time after time.
