We give trees a second life

in your home. The trees used to make parquet are felled just before they die in the forest. For every tree felled, a new one is planted. Parquet is therefore the only truly sustainable kind of flooring.

The term "sustainability" originates from forestry and refers to forest management, where the natural ability to regenerate is central to whole process.

Forests are important stores of CO2. However, if they are not managed sustainably, they are an additional source of CO2 emissions that promote climate change. That is why we only source wood and wood products from a controlled origin – either certified by third parties or controlled internally.

Fascinating facts about wood

"SHOPPING"

We buy 96 percent of our wood requirements from Europe (including oak and beech), while just 3 percent is sourced from overseas (walnut and maple). The remaining percentage of (coniferous) wood we use for documents originates from Switzerland.

HIBERNATION

Trees also experience a kind of hibernation. We’ve all seen the leaves fall in autumn, which is when the tree has already drawn lots of useful nutrients from its leaves to store as a supply for the winter. It then uses these reserves over the cold months.

SOURCES OF ENERGY

Wood is still an important source of energy in Swiss households. Although the vast majority use central heating to warm their homes, every tenth building with residential use has stove heating or a self-contained central heating system, which mostly uses wood.

FUEL

We also keep the wood shavings from production. Dry, untreated wood particles are machine-pressed and used as fuel in the form of wood briquettes – in our case, we use them to heat the factory building.

WOOD-LAND OF SWITZERLAND

The woods play a crucial role in the daily life of the Swiss people. The country has around 500 million trees that not only supply the renewable and sustainable resource of wood, they also play a vital role in protecting the country against avalanches or rockfalls and reducing the water runoff, as they cover about one third of the land.
